Examples of Rhetoric in Everyday Life

When people talk about rhetoric they usually just mention how it's used to persuade people or persuade a whole audience. Then people talk about just how ethos, logos, and pathos are used, but what people don't really mention is that it's used in our everyday lives. People use rhetoric everyday in their lives without even noticing it. Some examples of rhetoric in everyday life are the radio, advertisements, billboards, posters, and even flyers on campus. All of these are examples that we see everyday of rhetoric being used.

  2. I agree that all of those things use rhetoric, especially advertisements and billboards. The writers of those things only have a couple seconds or a couple sentences to grab their readers attention and persuade them. This is why they utilize rhetoric. Pathos, ethos, and logos are helpful ways to get the audience's attention.

  3. I would agree that most people encounter and even use different types of rhetoric everyday and we don't even realize it. "Rhetoric" sounds like a "fancy word" but it really all comes down to knowing how to use words to send out information and get what you want. I suppose the more you are aware of what language can do, then more able you are to use it to serve your purposes.

  4. I never even thought about putting it in that perspective. We really are surrounded by rhetoric through podcasts, billboards, and advertisements on the internet. Rhetoric is so important to master in order to be successful at persuading people.
