Chapter 9 TYfA and the election

Control the mood, how do your supporters feel about you? As my mom always told me; "people will forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel." Trump stands for the working man, this nations security and protecting capitalism, while Biden stands for women's rights, free health care and protecting immigrants, both in broad senses.

Yet how do they make you feel? It is their job to make you feel a way about their cause. They want you to share their belief or they align themselves to a group belief. Whether it is nostalgia for what once was or lust for what one wishes to be the future; we lead to different thought groups more often than not out of anger. both candidates use storytelling with Biden using it some more and Trump instills patriotism more among his supporters.

  1. Controlling the mood of your audience when speaking is very important. The election is a great example of this; both parties approach the listeners in different ways, one of which will obviously be more successful than the other. Sharing their beliefs and aligning themselves with their audiences' beliefs will also aid them in being successful. You can always use words to instill a feeling in someone, but the way you make that person feel is the real technique that will affect them; I'm glad you included that quote in this post!

  2. Controlling the mood is a very important part of pathos. Political candidates have to be even more careful about the mood of the audience to try and gain votes. I like how you mentioned how Biden uses storytelling to control the mood of the audience while Trump uses patriotism.

  3. I like how you connected the election to pathos. Controlling the mood of your audience is a very important thing. With Trump and Biden running for something that is so powerful they definitely have to focus a lot on their pathos, ethos, and logos to try and persuade as many people as they ca.

  4. I thought your idea of connecting what is currently going on in the world, to pathos is a great way to explain what pathos is. Connecting the election and how each candidate is speaking to pathos helped me further understand how the element is used in rhetoric.
